Things have definitely gotten easier now that the girls are out of the newborn phase. They sleep all night with great naps (wahoo!), can hold their own bottles, and happily chew on toys and crawl around all day. Also, now that they are 7 months old, we have hit a new milestone – starting solids!
As with everything, their reaction to baby food couldn’t have been more different. Kate was not having it and spit out every bite at first, but now she has gotten used to it and loves fruits and a couple veggies. It seems I have another picky eater on my hands! Keira was grabbing at the spoon and yelling to be fed faster from the start. A girl after my own heart, she’ll eat anything!
I’ve mentioned before that I make most of my own baby food. I do keep some jars and pouches around the house for when we go out or just incase, but the bulk of the food I feed the babies I make myself and wanna know a secret – it’s super easy! I like knowing exactly what I’m feeding my babies, it saves money, and if you use the Baby Brezza One Step Baby Food Maker cooking and cleanup are both fast and easy. That’s my kind of cookin’!
When Andrew and Brooke started on solids, I would steam food in pots on the stove then use a hand blender to puree it, usually spending a couple of hours cooking in bulk then freezing most of it. But bottom line is I just don’t have time to do that anymore. And with my new toy, the Baby Food Maker, I can just cook what we need when we need it. Basically you peal and chop up whatever you want to make, dump it in the bowl (I love the glass version but they have plastic too), fill the water container, check your booklet for cooking time (but you’ll learn ’em quick), set the timer, and press start. The Baby Food Maker does the rest. It will steam the food then automatically switch to puree mode. The whole process takes about 10-20 minutes depending on what you’re cooking, so I leave it and make the rest of the family’s dinner then we can all sit at the table together. If you want to cook in bulk, you can do that too. I usually make 2 servings but there is plenty of extra room to make more if I wanted to.
The best part is since you only used one bowl you can just wash it real quick or throw it in the dishwasher and cleanup is done. Cleaning your highchair or kitchen floor, well that’s a different story but all I can say it just roll with it mom!
We have stuck to the basics – apples, pears, sweet potatoes, carrots, peas, peaches, squash, etc. – but the Baby Brezza Glass One Step Baby Food Maker comes with a bunch of recipes that I can’t wait to try. What are your baby’s favorite foods?
